We paid for a room upgrade but was not impressed, it was ok

Asked for room with river view and balcony but was given floor 2 which is so close to the road that it's hardly a river view

The bathroom lacked adequate ventilation, causing humidity to build up after showering, and the bathroom door was unusually heavy and difficult to close. The most significant concern was the hotel's entrance and pickup area. The entrance can be very confusing for guests, as the sliding doors facing the main street appear to be the primary entrance, when the actual entrance is located elsewhere. There is little to no clear signage directing guests, which led to frequent confusion. While waiting for rideshare pickups near the main street, I found myself redirecting several people to the correct entrance because they were unsure where to go. Additionally, the roundabout serving as the main entrance often became heavily congested with valet traffic, guest vehicles, and rideshare pickups. My partner and I eventually learned that it was faster to walk to the main street and wait on the sidewalk for our Uber rather than use the designated pickup area, as doing so helped us avoid significant delays. While the property is visually impressive and the location is convenient, the ongoing issues with accessibility, wayfinding, and transportation logistics significantly impacted our experience. Unfortunately, based on this stay, I do not anticipate returning in the future.

We had a wonderful stay at the Watergate. Everything was top notch- 5 stars! ⭐️ we will definitely be back!

The first room I was given had a broken AC. I called multiple times to get it fixed but ultimately had to go downstairs and demand being reassigned to a room with a functioning AC. The second room we were assigned had a functioning AC, but the temperature never made it to what it was assigned. The lighting panel in the room also didn’t function, but the lights would work if you turned on individually. Not sure why it’s there if it doesn’t work. The hotel is otherwise conveniently located, historic, and the amenities are newly remodeled. I’ve stayed at DC hotels with much better service and responsiveness. If you decide to stay, consider doing so in a cooler month given the AC issues.

Location was the determining factor

The spa is incredible. I’ve been staying at the Watergate for the last four years. My most recent trip was for my daughter’s graduation from George Washington University. I also had two other couples stay at the hotel for the Graduation. I was given a room above the valet and car park. My guests were given better rooms. I had no screen door on my balcony, which I wanted to leave open for fresh air. We heard cars & valets every night. I should have been given another room or upgraded to make me happy, it was the worst room imaginable.

I traveled with my son who was celebrating a birthday during the trip. I spoke to multiple staff about a special surprise for him and it never happened. When I contacted the staff, they were not concerned about the mishap and said they would try better on our next visit. What makes them think that we would go back based on this experience? Also, the rooftop is not open often and staff are allowed to shut it down before closing if they feel like it.

For the price we paid, the experience was just average. No outdoor pool, not many amenities to enjoy but the place was clean. The room was kind of underwhelming because the walls were thin. The spa was okay, the masseuse I had was excellent. But it was underground so no sunlight to enjoy while you’re in the spa, it felt kind of dark and damp. The dining options were kind of subpar.

Lived the view from the 10th floor. Great pool and sauna. Excellent location
-
Room service didn’t work. The rooms are very dated. The balcony/river view was a concrete wall. The room was not worth what I paid for it. Other than the shower being huge, it was poorly lit. Never again

Staff is pleasant and warm. Great service. Nice view and close to the river with great restaurants to hangout.
