I loved being surrounded by music history. I wish there was an elevator. We had so much heavy staff but at the end of our stay a staff member helped us with the luggage. There was no coffee on the weekends. The microwave should be in another place. I enjoyed my stay in general.

False advertisement, it smells bad . Once I went in the room the other women that was in there had it looking like a roomer house.

Nice, comfortable, and clean room, near public transportation and grocery stores (Trader Joe's, Whole Food Market); nice and helpful staff; the downstair area near frontdesk is spacisous and nice.

A lot of the guests are facing permanent or temporary homelessness, which makes this uncomfortable mix if you are a tourist and don't want to get pulled into this kind of energy. Also bcs there are only a few people in each room, the other person's energy and issues impact you more so than if you were in a much larger dorm. My roommate stayed in the room all day 24/7, had taken up the whole wardrobe, chatted to me non-stop, asked for help with life issues, stayed up well past 1AM making noise, and made smelly food all day and night in the room. I was waiting for the bathroom for 20 mins one morning at 8am on a Sunday to go to Napa, one gentleman was in the bathroom talking to himself loudly in the mirror, "Your awesome, you've got this," that's fine but there are people waiting. Some guests camped out in the shared living space making me feel unwelcome. While not the Tenderloin this is not a good part of town. For only $10USD more a night I was able to find a lovely hotel around the corner, private room with ensuite, housekeeping every other day, and free coffee in the lobby. This hostel isn't worth it for the price compared to a 3 star hotel. They also would not give me a refund, and didnt offer to move me to another room. I stayed in another hostel this trip in DC which was excellent, and I think its bcs a hostel in SF is going to be used a halfway house as many people in the city are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, whereas the guests in DC are not.

Although very close to the proclaimed "dicey" Tenderloin district, the local unhoused residents were friendly and even helpful in finding my way around the neighborhood. The staff did a great job at keeping common areas clean daily, (lounge, TV room, restrooms and showers). The sidewalk in front of the hotel was scrubbed with soap and water every morning; very nice as I found this area of San Francisco to be fairly dirty. I was aware of the location when I booked my stay so this as neither a surprise or a bother. Fresh and hot coffee and tea was available round the clock. Easy check-in and out procedures. Access to the building was available 24/7, checking a bag with the front desk was very helpful as there is not much room in the units for more than a small bag with essentials that can be kept in the sleeping capsule. - Easy and secure access to the building & common facilities. - Showers and restrooms are clean and easily accessible. - Great location for seeing San Francisco by walking or bus. (parking is a hassle anywhere in SF) My only complaint is the bed was a thin mattress and not very comfortable and the room was stuffy, but reasonable considering I shared the room with 3 strangers.

I didn't understand the grunge vibe at all. The property makes money renting studios, so it should be able to keep a clean, fresh environment for the hostel/hotel side. The sink leaked (114)' so the rud was wet. The capsule is cheap and lacking basic amenities like a locker and towel bar and luggage space. The window doesn't open for fresh air. The elevator was broken and the luggage room had no organized bins. My bad got tossred on the floor. At night it reeks of cigarettes smoke from other rooms. The toilets shower are are cleaned but nowhere to put a towel or clothes. I've stayed in hostel worldwide and they are all inexpensive but amazing comfortable. This place seems to say it's cheap so you get what you pay for.

Honestly, it was a jam. Best hostel in the city probably.

They gave our room away to someone else then told us there were no other available rooms to choose from since everyone else had already checked in. In actuality there was another, better room, like the one i had booked, available because the people who came in and checked in after us were given that room. The event space, bar and restaurant were not open at all during our visit either. The bed was incredibly old and uncomfortable and the room itself made me so allergic i had to sleep with my head at the foot of the bed near the window to get fresh air.
