The hotel and room was very nice. Now that Pennsylvania Ave is closed, protestors stop at the corner in front of the hotel. We needed to leave for the airport and the police shut the street down just as the valet brought our car to let a stream of protestors walk to the corner. I told the police we needed to leave to go to the airport, but they could care less. Protestors have more rights than hotel guests. Unfortunately due to this location ,which isn’t the hotels fault, I’ll not stay here again.

We recently stayed one night at The Hay-Adams in Washington, DC, and it was an absolutely memorable experience for our Anniversary celebration to US. This historic hotel, right across from the White House, truly lives up to its reputation for elegance and exceptional service. From the moment we arrived, the staff's warm and helpful attitude stood out. The grand reception lobby is stunning, with its wonderful Italian Renaissance-inspired architecture, rich wood panelling, ornate details, and timeless charm that immediately transports you to a bygone era of sophistication. What made our stay special was the incredibly friendly front desk staff, particularly the Punjabi gentleman who greeted us in Hindi—it felt just like being back in India! His genuine warmth and easy conversation instantly made us feel at home and added a personal, comforting touch to the luxury surroundings. One of the highlights was a kind staff member who took the time to narrate the fascinating history of the Hay-Adams. He shared details about its namesakes—John Hay (Abraham Lincoln's private secretary and later Secretary of State) and Henry Adams (the renowned historian and descendant of two U.S. Presidents)—and how the hotel stands on the site of their former Gilded Age mansions. His storytelling brought the place to life. As the construction works were ongoing in the front park (Lafayette Square area), he generously allowed us to head up to the rooftop for photos of the White House. The panoramic view from up there is breathtaking—truly one of the best vantage points in the city. Location-wise, you couldn't ask for better: steps away from the White House and all the iconic sights. If you're looking for history, luxury, and heartfelt hospitality in the heart of DC, The Hay-Adams is unbeatable. 10/10 stars. Not applicable.

The staff, the room, the ambiance and the location. Nothing.

Top notch hotel. The lack of a regal lobby benefits this hotel. Charming and hospitable. 5 stars. Go there.

The historic hotel was something to behold especially the culinary gems and great staff. The squeeky floor of the guests above you does not make for a romantic or pleasant stay, especially with a five-star price tag.

Bed needed a new mattress. Coffee maker in room didn’t work. Very small room for the cost. When I went down to breakfast, hostess wanted to make me wait because I didn’t have a reservation. Second hostess intervened and gave me a table. I’ve stayed at this hotel several times in the past and always had a better experience. They need to up their game.
